The Archive of Public Protests

books / 2019

The Archive of Public Protests brings together visual traces of social activism, and grassroots initiatives opposing political decisions and breaches of democratic norms and human rights since early 2016. It is a collection of images that constitutes a warning against rising right-wing populism and discrimination in the broadest sense of the term: xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny, and also the climate crisis. In establishing the Archive, its creators wish to prolong the life of their images, which are connected with specific events, and whose existence ends with their publication in the press. The APP gathers photographs in a single, easily accessible collection, which will remain accessible to researchers, educators, artists, and activists. Additionally, the Archive’s resources will be open to all users who express a desire to communicate the values with which its creators identify.
Between 2020 and 2024 A-P-P has launched nine issues of the Strike Newspaper a spontaneous publication with protesters’ slogans, testimonies, and photos by the A-P-P members and invited photographers. More than 35,000 copies of the Strike Newspapers dedicated to women’s rights, LGBTQ+ community rights, climate change, anti-war and solidarity with Ukraine protests, Belarusian diaspora protests against the Lukashenko regime, and protests against the humanitarian crisis at the Poland-Belarus border have been distributed for free at the protests in Poland and abroad.
