The full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. Along with the military operation, a propaganda machine was launched to build an image of the conflict tailored to the Kremlin's needs. Mexico condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but on March 1, 2022, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador ruled out imposing economic sanctions on Moscow for the invasion of Ukraine and criticized what he called the censorship of Russian media.
After 2.5 years of ongoing war, Rafal Milach is setting up Desparte Distortion Studio in Mexico to counter Obrador's foreign policy in a one-man effort. In a desperate gesture with a limited arsenal of tools and no sense of agency in global politics, Rafal Milach breaks Russian President Vladimir Putin's February 24, 2020 video speech into several thousand frames. Each frame is modified and subjected to artistic intervention. At the same time, visual and sound artist Lukasz Dziedzic disrupts the soundtrack of this propaganda speech. The animation is accompanied by a more than three thousand pages flip-book that is impossible to browse.
